Welcome to Hazelwood Grove
Welcome to The Hazelwood Grove
Our Mission and Vision
Hazelwood is a spiritual community based in Utah by the community for the community. There is no single dogma, pantheon, or scripture to be followed – this is an eclectic living tradition comprised of members of the community who follow their own individual practices and bring them together in rituals and other events. My mission is to foster safe spaces for people to share their practices with each other, allowing members of the community to be both mentors and students as they develop their own personal gnosis. Through authenticity and vulnerability we engage in the shared goal of raising consciousness on the planet, also known as ‘The Great Work”.
What is the Great Work?
The Great Work refers to the practices and experiences an individual undergoes on the path to self-transcendence, also known as self-actualization, inner enlightenment, or ascension. Ceremonial magicians might also call this ‘Crossing the Abyss’. Whatever you call it, in a nutshell the great work is achieved when one has transcended the self, the ego, and realizes the illusion of separation, and the truth of the interconnection of all things.
How is Hazelwood doing the Great Work?
Community Connection
First and foremost, I have a passion for serving the local community and putting people first. I serve the community through offering ritual, meet-ups, nature walks, mentorship and readings as well as other services.
Living Sustainably
I strive to be a good steward of the Earth and to live more in balance with the planet. No matter what spiritual path one may follow, we can all agree that taking care of the one home we have is an essential task.
Authenticity and Inclusivity
I place a lot of value on authenticity. This means we must also foster an environment of acceptance and inclusivity which helps encourage and create safe spaces where we can show up as our radically vulnerable and authentic selves.
Why Hazelwood?
Hazel has been special to me since I was a child. I remember listening to Ceoltoiri’s version of The Song of Wandering Aengus, a poem by WB Yeats, and the words “I went to the Hazelwood, a fire was in my head” stuck with me in a deep and indelible way that I would not truly understand for years to come. In my studies of the sacred tree ogham I have found hazel (Coll) to be a perfect tree to represent my presence in the community - representing wisdom, protection and healing. Beyond that, the physical properties of hazel are of interest; hazel is well suited to grow in a copse - a small wood or thicket made up of numerous individual trees coming together to be more than the sum of its parts. When I was a bit older, my mother gifted a hazel wand to me which had been cut from a corkscrew hazel and fit perfectly around my wrist. I still have that wand and it is the effigy of the egregor of Hazelwood today.

"It'll take a lot more than words and guns,
A whole lot more than riches and muscle,
The hands of the many must join as one -
And together we'll cross the river"
